As we celebrate 30 years of The Learning House, we are honouring three deserving graduates.
What an honour to be a part of your homeschooling journey. The idea of offering a scholarship for high school students grew from the understanding that these families make sacrifices and don’t have access to as many grants, bursaries, and scholarships as are available through public education.
We know how hard these students worked to be here and we are thrilled to announce our scholarship recipients:
Eliora Cooke of Coldwater, Ontario is headed to Lakehead University to study Concurrent Education. Eliora feels blessed to have a mother that instilled a love in her for teaching others and wants to use that God-given gift.
She feels home education provided her the opportunity to become self-motivated and disciplined through working independently. These skills paid off when Eliora completed an online university English course which she passed with honours. She feels this helped pave the way for her university acceptance.
A home-schooled education has allowed me to discover how God is found in every subject, and I am eagerly awaiting to see where His handiwork will be in my university studies.
Leah Ramsay of Walnut Grove, New Brunswick will pursue Biblical and Theological studies at New Brunswick Bible Institute. She has a heart to serve in ministry and wants to be rooted in the word of God.
Music has been an important part of Leah’s life with formal piano lessons and teaching herself how to play guitar. She now uses her musical gift to lead worship at her church and at youth retreats and Bible camps.
At home, I have learned the importance of prayer and personal devotions. I have been encouraged to seek wise counsel, to be humble, to ask for forgiveness, and to be patient, preferring others above myself.
Cole Braden of Ashton, Ontario is enrolled at the University of Ottawa to study Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. Not only has he completed three university level math credits at University of Ottawa, but Cole and his brother started Steampunk Robotics in 2018. This STEM education company has received provincial awards and employs four instructors that provide STEM education to under-served rural communities across the Ottawa Valley.
Cole has always been a “maker” and enjoyed the process of problem – plan – trial – solution. He hopes to glorify God in his studies and future career.
I want to be an ambassador for the Christian home education movement and bring glory to God by my efforts.Through math and science, I have been able to stand on the shoulders of giants and learn about advances in tech that would have seemed unbelievable only 100 years ago.
Thank you to all that applied for our scholarship. Our selection committee was impressed by the caliber of applicants and is confident that these students will continue to excel in their academic and future endeavors.
